venusaurphobia:

Half the ads during the Super Bowl were just “here’s a hot girl dressed sexy” and my mom and sister brought up how mad it makes them because it sets a standard for guys that girls are supposed to look like that but that’s really not true. How it really affects males is that they end up viewing girls as nothing but something to have sex with, which is what makes me mad, because a vast majority of guys feel that way and only ever talk about girls in terms of sex. Serious relationships aren’t talked about because, you know, they’re gay or whatever. Males really aren’t setting girls they know in real life to those standards presented to us, most guys have a fairly low “will have sex with” threshold and that’s all they care about. Girls should definitely be worried about the standards that are being set for themselves, how all this imagery contributes to eating disorders, crippled self-esteem, and constant anxiety, but when it comes to males, be more worried about the objectification of women as a few holes held together with some muscles and bones, which leads to men viewing women as less equal, less intelligent, and owing them sex.

About Me

Queer Canadian feminist, aspiring biologist. Into atheism, reading, writing, drawing, gaming, yoga, and health. I like wholeness, wellness, the human body, and weird, dark, twisted things. I like books and movies that make you feel sort of uncomfortable, unsettled and satisfied. I like people who are funny, independent, sarcastic, laid-back, passionate, kind, intelligent and analytical, and I hope one day I can call myself all of those things.
